This past week I stumbled across an awesome idea for feeding kids: fill up a muffin tin with various foods that all relate to a common theme. There are so many reasons I love this idea, but most importantly my son can see how much I really care about his meals. As moms we spend so much time planning and worrying about their nutrition, but our kids don’t “see” it. What a wonderful way to make him feel special and get him excited to try a variety of different foods.
I found this idea at “Her Cup Overfloweth“. Every week Michelle hosts Muffin Tin Monday. Most weeks have a theme, and every third week is a “no theme” week where you come up with your own. This week was the no theme week, so I chose to do the ocean. I’m surprised at how hard it is to design these muffin tins!
(You will have to excuse my craptastic muffin tin. He’s been serving us well for many years!)

On the bottom row we have pretzel and cheddar goldfish crackers for the fish. I know… super creative. And strawberry oatmeal for sand with crustaceans. Above the “sand” is blueberry yogurt for water or sky. I realized as I was putting it in the tin that blueberry yogurt is actually purple… Oh well, a purple sky at the beach is ultra cool, right? Also on the top row is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich dolphin.
It was hit for all of us! Thanks, Michelle, for hosting this!

You asked about out dinosaur tin. We’ve only had it for about a week and have already used it three times. If you scroll down a little on my blog you can see the cupcakes, which were a big hit. The muffins I tried didn’t turn out well – I apparently need to practice filling the cups just right.
Welcome to MTM! No worries on your tin, check out mine, it’s a foil-pan-tin!
It’s still a lot of fun!
Very cute! Love the dolphin!
Thanks for stopping by my blog! You mentioned making banana muffins… If you have a banana bread recipe you like, you can just put the batter in prepared muffin tins and bake for less time (at least half) depending on your recipe. I have a banana bread recipe I like that takes 1 hour 10 minutes for a loaf, but I prefer muffins… so 30 to 35 minutes gives me perfect banana muffins!
This would be a hit at my house too! I love how you created all the elements using muffin tins…like the sand and sky.
I love your theme. I just started and have yet to do something like that. Very impressive!
This looks great! I love the oatmeal sand and the joyful dolphin! Don’t worry about being overly creative or about the condition of your tin… I get a new idea from every tin I see & all that matters is that you’re having fun!
Thanks so much for joining us! I LOVE that dolphin sandwich!
you don’t necessarily have to do a theme on non-theme days, it’s whatever you want to do! I need a break from the themes, so I just kind of throw a bunch of foods my kids like into a tin!
I love the dolphin sandwich!
Welcome to MTM! The dolphin sandwich is super cute!
Your muffin tin is so cute!! Welcome to Muffin Tin Monday
Cute theme!! And your muffin tin is nothing compared to mine, lol!
LOVE your ocean theme and the dolphin is too cute! We LOVE Muffin Tin Monday’s in our home too!
Welcome to MTM, love your ocean theme!
Great first tin! It would have been a hit here as well.
Welcome to MTM! Your dolphin sandwich is too cute!
“craptastic”… LOVE it! What a super cute idea! The sand, the fish, the purple sky…great!
Great idea for your own theme. You made me smile with this post! Love the word “craptastic”!
Thanks for popping by my blog last week for MTM (cheesey style). It was funny to read that your son wouldn’t touch the cheese because you had put it with lunch meat. My son isn’t a fan of lunch meat, either. What gives!?
